“Blow Job”
40” x 30”
Oil on stretched canvas
2007
Collection of private collector

The whole concept of “Blow Job” was an image that I had in my head. With the help of a good model we hopefully pulled it off. With many paintings, the title is unimportant. This one, on the other hand, the title more or less defines what the viewer interprets the subject of the painting to be.
This image was actually run in “THE HORSE BACKSTREET CHOPPERS” magazine without the title. If they had put the title of the painting in, it would have surely been pulled from the shelf.
With a brief discussion with the model I explained that I wanted her to have the body language and attitude that she might have just prior to the act. During the photo shoot we analyzed the pictures until we came up with an image that when having the “Blow Job” moniker attached to it would be obvious what the painting was about. We had a few other images also but they were too obvious. I wanted to have an image that would just be attractive but nothing that was too obvious when the title wasn’t known. Also I wanted the painting to be strong whether people knew what it was about or not.
The painting process was a challenge also. Working with a completed under drawing and building from there, both the lighting and trying to make the tattoos look as if the were real (which they were) and not just painted on really put my painting skills to the test. These elements and keeping true to original image seemed to make the process take forever.
The actual painting time is unknown but a rough estimate would be around 150 hours. As with many of my paintings I will show progress images on the internet. With this painting, it actually sold before it was completed. I did, of course finish it before turning it over to the collector, but a purchase price was established before completion.
